More gun violence shakes a worried city →
I know you were worried guys, but don’t worry, I’m still alive:
4 houses, 60 bullets
In the South End, police said, more than 60 bullets were fired at four houses, beginning about 1 a.m. The police gang unit is investigating at least two of those shootings.
The first shooting, at 1 a.m., was in the Brighton neighborhood on South Frontenac Street. Shortly after 3 a.m., bullets hit a...

Fatal south Seattle shooting suspect now in jail →
Well at least this is some good news.
But seriously, it feels like we’re headed towards an all out war in the south end. The reputation of the SPD is so poor that people were allegedly trying to fight the cops when they showed up to this shooting, and they couldn’t get to the victim for five minutes after arriving.

Sources: DOJ sends letters to city blasting... →
I laughed when I saw this because my girlfriend makes fun of me every time I’m annoyed with the service of a business, due to the fact that one time I wrote a sternly written letter to Car Toys. Any time I start complaining, she immediately asks, “are you going to write a letter?”
Clever girl.
But for real, the Seattle PD is fucked up, and good on the DOJ for calling out these...

Can a sexual harassment suit shatter the glass... →
One of the biggest annoyances in tech is that it’s an old boy’s club.
I mean, that’s one of the bigger annoyances in life in general, but it seems like tech should be past that by now.

Rather than reading it, let me save you some time with a tweet from Eric Goldman:
The Community talking points memo is amusing to see, but I’m guessing also incredibly run of the mill in Hollywood.

So I'm thinking of getting a Kindle
I have a deal to get one for $50, which is stupid cheap. But do any of you have them? How do the screens hold up? I’m not going to get a case, because that puts it in the “do I really need this?” category.
So, friends, are they decently sturdy?

Pocket dialing is a thing that still happens?
itspumpkininny:
I’ve been pocket dialed THREE TIMES today by two different people. I haven’t had a phone do that since I had a Blackberry Pearl, and my current phone isn’t that fancy.
Just, have your phone on lockdown, so I don’t look like the idiot saying “helllooooo” a bunch of times.
You should just scream, “HELLO [PERSON]’S BUTT! HOW ARE YOU DOING, BUTT?!”

Don't antagonize the Klingons, Kirk
Chancellor Gorkon: You have not experienced Shakespeare until you have read him in the original Klingon.
General Chang: "To be or not to be?" That is the question which preoccupies our people, Captain Kirk. We need breathing room.
James Kirk: Earth. Hitler, 1938.

I go back and forth on VI. Some really good mixed with some not so good.
It’s by far my favorite of the first six, although I would never argue that it is better than The Wrath of Khan.

I was listening to the latest Back to Work this morning, and it talked a lot about incentive and inspiration (among other things; it was probably the most rambling B2W yet, not that there’s anything wrong with that).
Merlin brought up the point that within so many work environments, the incentive for the manager is to keep the work moving out the door, and that in turn creates an incentive...

QFC blocks new liquor stores from some shopping... →
It gives me great glee to see a rich asshole from the eastside being fucked over, especially when they try to play the competition card:
“Big-box stores funded the initiative for privatization and a free market, but they want to monopolize the situation,” said Jeffrey Roh, a Kirkland orthopedic surgeon who won the right to sell spirits at three of the state’s current locations....

Gophermods couldn't fix my PS3
It stopped working a few years ago, but we have a second PS3 (came free with a TV) so I didn’t really care. Then I wanted to watch Netflix on our upstairs TV, so I sent it in to get fixed.
It unfortunately can’t be fixed, which is a bit of a bummer. The RSX (graphics processing unit) is dead. The cool thing is that they’ll send me the HDD back and refund my $70, which is pretty...

This fair housing refresher course is definitely improved by blaring my music over it.
Also, you’d be amazed at how many people have no idea what these laws are or how they apply to them. Educate yourselves, people!
